1) Council Fee - we will issue you with a cheque payable to Kirklees Council to cover the cost of the grave. This fee is subject to change therefore it is your duty to speak to the funeral directors to find the current cost of the grave.

Upon verification, the 2 payments by us on your behalf to 1)HMBC to cover their fees & 2)Kirklees Council to cover the cost of grave plot.
PLEASE NOTE - WE DO NOT CARRY OUT ANY OTHER FUNERAL RELATED ACTIVITIES - THE HMBC TEAM WILL HELP WITH THIS.
Q6. Which members of my family are covered under my membership?
A6. A membership covers any individual and if applicable, his/her spouse (if they have paid the joining fee) and any children under 18 years old.
Please note: Children under 18yrs old currently do not have a grave cost associated in Kirklees - if no fee is required by the local council then NO PAY OUT is provided.
Once a child has reached 18 years old, they are required to take out their own independent membership. (This still applies if child becomes 18 years old half way through a calendar year - e.g. child birthday is 01/06. Up to 01/06 child is covered under parents membership but on the 01/06 they will need to join as a new independent member. This involves the membership fee and yearly subscription fee to be paid).
Q7. What is the cost of a grave in Kirklees?
A7. The costs are covered under our HMBC page - refer for more information.
Adult graves have 3 different charges depending on the one selected by the family, that will be the fee applicable.
Children/Minors used to have a fee which until recently has been scraped by the Kirklees.
Under our membership - whatever the cost the Kirklees council state, we will cover - if no cost then we will not pay anything out apart from HMBC charges.
Q8. I dont live in Huddersfield (Kirklees) how much am I covered up too?
A8. Our membership will ONLY cover the fees and charges set out by our local council (Kirklees) - which is currently £2687 + £335 = £3022.00 as an indication.
If you live in another council ward, then please note we would only pay the above as a maximum.
If you wish to buried local to your town/city then your grave costs could be higher, therefore difference will need to be covered by the family.

Q9. Why does the annual subscription fee increase?
A9. Our fees are in relation to the cost of funeral in Kirklees. Over the last few years the cost of funerals has almost tripled yet our fees have only increased in £5.00 to £10.00. The reality is the fee should also have tripped so to close the deficit we are having to slowly increase the ANNUAL price until we have sufficient funds in our account to cover worst case scenarios.
Using a simple example below hopefully it will demonstrate how the annual fee is still good value for money.
New member joins at the age of 18 years old and typical life expectancy say 75 years old therefore member has been a paying member for 57 years.
£80.00 x 57 = £4,560.00 total paid into plan.
Please note over policy covers a the individual and children under 18 years. Spouse is added to same membership subject to spouses joining fee being paid.
Even if children reach 18+ and take out their own memberships both Membership holder and spouse will still be covered your family membership therefore the below example shows how much cover is in place.
Cost of funeral is £3500.00 x 2 = £7,000.00 for a couple.
Therefore all your life you have paid £4,560.00 and we will cover you for at least £7000.00 as a minimum.
You never cover the actual costs of your and family's funeral, being a member allows us to distribute the money to who needs it next.
As explained above, due to increase in council fees and increase in number of deaths, we have to undertake slight increases in price.
Q10. If a member dies aboard or outside Kirklees, UK, what will be the pay-out by MFS?
A10. If anyone covered under a membership dies abroad, then the 3 below possible scenarios would apply.
Scenario 1) Membership person dies abroad and the family wish for them to be buried in Kirklees, UK, then as per Q3, we will cover the cost of grave and HMBC costs. We are not responsible nor do we pay towards any costs associated with the transportation of the body from a foreign country to the UK. This is something covered by a travel insurance policy which one should take out prior to any form of travel. More information can be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/foreign-travel-insurance.
Scenario 2) Membership person dies abroad and the family wish for them to be buried in that country for example member dies whilst visiting Pakistan or performing Hajj/Umrah in Saudi Arabia, then we will pay a set amount of £1500.00 to a nominated family member which can be used as they wish to make the necessary travel arrangements to be with the deceased member. This is because there is no Council or HMBC fees will be involved and the cost of burial is cheaper abroad. The fee we pay-out of £1,500.00 is non-negotiable.
Scenario 3) Membership person dies within the UK but outside of Kirklees, then as per Q3, we will cover the cost of grave and HMBC costs (please note - HMBC cost maybe higher if the transportation of body if from outside Kirklees).
Q11. If a member dies and wishes to be buried somewhere else apart from Kirklees UK, what will be the pay-out by MFS?
A11. If anyone covered under a membership dies and wishes to be buried at a different location apart from the default (Kirklees, UK) then the 2 below possible scenarios would apply.
Scenario 1) Membership person dies in the UK and family wishes for that person to be buried in that town/city (not Kirklees) then we would pay the cost of grave for that council borough and HMBC's charges. If the costs are more than Kirklees then the family will need to pay the difference - more details are given in Q8 above. If the cost is less then Kirklees then that is covered by us, please note we do not give the difference (saving) to the family.
Scenario 2) Membership person dies UK/abroad and the family wish for them to be buried in another country for example member dies in UK or whilst holiday to Turkey and family wish for him to be buried in Pakistan, then we will pay a set amount of £1500.00 to a nominated family member which can be used as they wish to make the necessary travel arrangements to be with the deceased member. If the member dies in the UK then PIA currently do not charge for repatriation. More details can be found the following link: https://pakconsulatela.org/shipment-of-dead-bodies
If the member dies in the outside UK, and body needs to go from Country A to Country B (not UK), then that needs to be arranged with the relevant Travel Insurance Company. We will pay a set amount of £1500.00 to a nominated family member which can be used as they wish to make the necessary travel arrangements to be with the deceased member. The fee we pay-out of £1,500.00 is non-negotiable.
Q12. If a family member who is a CHILD dies what is covered by MFS?
A12. As per Q6, children under 18 are covered in a family policy - any child who has reached their 18th birthday will not be covered as they are required to take out a separate new adult membership.
If the child is still born - the grave is FREE of charge provided by the council. We DO NOT pay for private graves due to a free graves being provided by the local council for still born babies. Families can opt for a private grave at their own cost.
If the child dies and is under 18 years old, Kirklees Council do not currently charge for the grave, therefore we would NOT PAY OUT any fees. If there are timber or concrete costs involved then MFS will that cost only along with any HMBC costs.
